In 1936 that was probably technically Texas & New Orleans 790. IIRC Texas had (somehow!) required railroads operating in the state to be incorporated in the state, so SP had subsidiaries including the T&NO, which ran east to New Orleans (Algiers, the part of New Orleans on the west bank of the Mississippi River). Also, that's probably an Mk. 5 class. IIRC there are five survivors of that class, including 786, which has run not that long ago under the Austin [TX] Steam Train Association, and 745, which ran until a few years ago (operated by the Louisiana Steam Train Association and owned by the Louisiana Railway Heritage Trust).
