Remarks: Prior to the week of filming to take place in Bellaire OH, Wheeling and Lake Erie crews switch out the power and rolling stock of the Unstoppable movie train. The patches visible on the locomotives reveal their pre-movie paint identities. The 7375 is actually W&LE (WE) 6352 and the 777 and 767 are CP Rail 9782 and 9751.
Remarks: The new rail is cut to size and ready to go so the track crew prepares for the second broken rail replacement of the day as the temperature for the day reaches a balmy negative 20 below zero with a stiff north wind. Lucky for them this one was right near a road crossing and the warm crew truck.
Remarks: Bound for Flat Rock, an extra job heads south across the diamond at Penford on the former DT&I. The massive concrete arches are remnants of the short-lived electrification of this stretch of track during Henry Ford's ownership of the line in the 1920's.
Remarks: On Veteran's Day, flanger SPMW 329, an old veteran of the Southern Pacific, made the journey from Albina yard to Eugene. Here at Shedd siding, UP 5291 and SPMW 329 will soon meet Amtrak #14. SPMW 329 was rebuilt in October 2009 at the Albina car shop in Portland, Oregon.
Remarks: While the UBEG was making up it's train on this foggy morning the Maryland Midland teamed up with the local school district to produce a training video for bus drivers.
