To catch a bit of the Rio Grande after it was long ago absorbed into the UP is a rare bonus these days. A BNSF coal empty is seen crossing the former Rio Grande bridge in Larkspur, Colorado

On the way back home from picking up my daughter in Denver I ran across this manifest in Larkspur. A storm had just passed through the area and the late afternoon light was very nice.

An empty coal train rolls alongside Monument Creek on the north end of Colorado Springs.

After meeting a couple of southbound coal loads and a red signal at the top of the hill this BNSF is on the move north.

Empties meet loads at Fountain, CO the site of the southernmost flyover of three that once existed on the Jointline.

A relative rare occurrence around here is two ACes on the headend of a coal train. Seen here rolling through north Colorado Springs on a fine Saturday morning.

Rio Grande 315 heads up a charter freight just west of Big Horn on what was a great day for photogrpahy. This is a very nice performing steam engine and is extremely well cared for.

I had driven by this location more than a few times and never considered stopping for a photo until one day I saw it covered in snow.

The Eagle River Bridge on the Alaska Railroad isn't the easiest place to get to along the railroad but it does offer a very nice view of the railroad's crack passenger train just a few minutes out... (more)
