In what was a moment of luck the setting sun dipped below the cloud cover and this loaded coal train showed up right on schedule to end a productive day of railfanning.

As we followed an empty east to the mine load outs our train met a westbound load at Rogers Mesa so we back tracked a few miles a caught this load at roughly MP 67.

A coal empty heads for the mine loadout at West Elk on what started as a very over cast day. It was a good day along the North Fork where the mines kicked out 4 loads.

Union Pacific's Montrose Local has a nice sized train today with 13 loads for Foster Farms in Delta and 16 empties for the wood chipper in Montrose. Seen here in Dominguez Canyon

Amtrak's California Zephyr rolls through the east end of Glenwood Canyon along the Colorado River right on time, a not so common event on the UP.

At the end of a successful day of photgraphy and minutes from both sunset and our hotel room the Rio Grande sends one more freight east to end the day.

DRGW 5377 and three sisters are almost to the junction at Mounds with, what was then a M-S operation, the dirt train. This was fantastic place to catch the remaining Rio Grande power in action. Oh... (more)

Another westbound manifest with a great consist. Get rid of the beater SP SD40 and we would have real winner. I thought I would try my hand at scanning some old Kodachromes.

Rio Grande's Tennessee Pass was a fantastic place to railfan and one of the reasons I moved to Colorado. While I would much rather have the Rio Grande leading the consist was neat with a GP60-SD45... (more)
