Remarks: The dense, cold fog still hangs on through most of the morning in Pittsburgh, including here in West Park. Oddly enough, at just a mile or so south there was nothing but blue skies and full sun. As noted by Burghman in his wonderful, previous photo (Photo ID : 260078), these trees are always last to change near the city.

Remarks: Cass Scenic Railroad Shay #5 along with Western Maryland Shay 6 take on water at Oats run during the trip to Bald Knob. Sitting on a 8% grade, the mighty shay engines will have to give all they have to pull out of the stop.

Remarks: Westbound BNSF mixed freight train framed by the wooden overpass at Home Valley, Washington. The overpass connects state highway 14 with a campground along the Columbia River. Originally built as a one-lane road bridge, the structure is now used only for pedestrian traffic. Its aging timbers contrast sharply with the welded rail of the tracks below.

Remarks: Bank Right! Exiting the Rock Bore Tunnel at Drano Lake, BNSF 4059 leads a westbound grain train towards the Seattle/Tacoma area. After arriving, the load will be transferred onto a ship for global distribution. The elevation around the curve in this location really makes for some interesting photography.

Remarks: Heavy fog, quiet countryside, distant horn, the bells start to ring and the gates come down as the red flashing lights glow in the fog to protect the grade crossing. The horn blows loud as the scene comes alive untill the silence returns as the train passes on. The early morning fog blankets the countryside as a Triple Crown Roadrailer train has it's path protected by dinging bells and flashing lights as it makes good time west to St. Paul, MN.

Remarks: As the sun rises over the farm lands of Michigan, a local farmer collects several bundles of hay. And as in years past, the sound of steam and the smell of smoke break through this quiet rural scene. A Lerro Productions event.

Remarks: The season of mid-week main line steam trains is now in full swing in the UK, and the "Scarborough Spa Express" was one of four running in various parts of the country on 29th July - a day of mostly torrential rain! The weather started to clear towards sunset, though, with the sun finding a gap in the clouds at just the right moment as the train left Knaresborough for York on the last leg of its 212 mile journey. By the time the train had passed me, the sun had disappeared into cloud again. Just occasionally, things work out right!
