Remarks: A lashup of three Class 9E electric locomotives and four Class 34-400 diesels are ready to head back to Sishen with 215 empty iron ore wagons as soon as the electrics have their pantographs raised. All ore trains on the Orex route are hauled by mixed electric/diesel electric lashups, with another three locomotives as mid-train power and often with another pair of locomotives pushing at the rear end of the train, all controlled by one crew in the lead locomotive.
Remarks: A candidate for restoration, hopefully. No 3457 was one of the fleet of ninety condensing Class 25's that were eventually converted to non-condensing locomotives when their huge condensing tenders were rebuilt to "worshond" (sausage dog) tenders, with the condensing radiators and fans replaced by a huge water tank.
Remarks: Recently rebuilt from Class 6E1 E2070 to Class 18E at the Transwerk shops at Koedoespoort in Pretoria, 18-224 waits for a fresh crew at the head of a goods train en route from Durban to Johannesburg.
