It's a rarity to see a BNSF coal train on UP rails through the mountains. This one is passing by the Colorado River along the Dotsero Cutoff on the way to Denver.

A BNSF trackage rights train exits tunnel 3 in UP's Tunnel District as it makes its way to Denver, about 25 track miles away.

The Rio Grande heritage unit was a surprise leader of the eastbound California Zephyr due to a malfunctioning Amtrak engine. UP 1989 led the train all the way to Chicago.

The Rio Grande and CNW heritage units pull a Union Pacific business special back to Denver, about 130 miles away at this point. Never had the CNW unit been on the Moffat Road before.

As much history as there has been at the Tennessee Pass tunnel, there isn't a whole lot left to see nowadays. It has been over 11 years since Union Pacific shut the line down (but not abandoned).... (more)
