The man taking a torch to the PC "worms" in 1980 was typical of what you'd come across at Naporano back then. You just never knew what the railroads would dig out of storage and send to Newark....
CR 6736 (ex LV) was out of service with the rest of the Big Alco fleet by the time I caught up with them in Watertown, Ny in 1981.
It was the end of the line for Soo 416 and sister unit 415 at Naporano Metals. I believe they met the torch soon after.
SLSF had run through agreements with SCL in late'79 and early'80, but their merger into BN altered this.
By Feb. of 1981 all of Conrail's big Alcos had been moved from thier base in Syracuse, NY to Watertown, NY for storage. I never did find out what happened to them afterwards, but I'd be intereste... (more)
The gentleman in the car seems unfazed by the incongruity of SR E8's at CNJ's shops. Throw in CR blue and you have quite a strange mix. The E8's went on to become NJT power.
