| Remarks: Coal hoppers from train 142 lie zigzagged across the right of way at Gilbert, VA, about 10 miles north of Charlottesville. Torrential rains the night before caused a washout at this location. The locomotives made it across the washout, but the cars immediately following piled up. Had #142 not found this problem, the northbound Crescent, Amtrak #20, would have!!! |
