NJT 5180 is a former Pennsylvania-Reading-Seashore Lines RDC1, a fact betrayed by the long, adhesive, foil patch covering the original road name on the letterboard, and the black and orange "scare stripes" on the ends. A more subtle indicator is the cast frame truck on the nearest end of the car. The PRSL was one of two roads (the other was B&M on its later Phase-I orders) to specify cast frame trucks, (instead of Budd's ultra lightweight, fabricated design,) on their Phase-I RDCs. A very similar cast frame truck, with bolster anchors added, appeared on B&M's later Phase-I RDCs, and became standard issue on all Phase-II RDCs. This particular car features a fabricated truck on the rear, obviously obtained in a swap from one of NJT's ex-CNJ or NYS&W RDCs.
