Westbound Metropolitans traverse the Atlantic Avenue Viaduct along the border of the Brownsville section of Brooklyn (across the street through the viaduct legs is Bedford-Stuyvesant). Built in 1901, the Atlantic Avenue Viaduct carries Long Island Rail Road's Atlantic 1 and 2 tracks connecting Jamaica to Flatbush Avenue in downtown Brooklyn (Atlantic Avenue Terminal). The viaduct is 1.6 miles long. Presently undergoing rehabilitation, this stretch may look very different in a couple years.
