This office car was created from a pre-war, 4-Compartment, 4-Double Bedroom, 2-Drawing Room sleeper, built by Pullman-Standard for the Rock Island. The pair of windows with the tiny windows above, represent two of the compartments, while a third was situated where the "R" logo now sits. The two sets of paired windows, over the number 100, were for the two drawing rooms. The three long windows were new additions, and replaced those of the fourth compartment, two of the four double bedroom windows and a general-use toilet. The other pair of double bedroom windows once sat over the truck at the far end. The open platform, of course, has replaced the original vestibule. The three new windows illustrate the window height of most post-war P-S production, while the others remain at the taller, pre-war size. Most likely, this opening must have matched the size of some more common Rock Island glazing. |
