| Remarks: This is the result of an out of control coal train two miles into a descent on a 3 percent grade as it hits a 12 degree reverse curve (St. Charles line of the Appalachia District). Notice the local folk just walking on top of the wrecked "Big Red" hoppers. Today, NS would have onlookers standing a half mile away, since coal is a "hazardous material." :) |

Sure looks like the good old days of railroading, when a man could stand on top of a pile of derailed coal hoppers with his baby in his arms. I was definitely born 20 years too late! Great historical image, Ron. |
