January 31, 1979- CR 6407 was the leader and CR 6377 was the trailing unit of a Syracuse-Enola freight that rear-ended a stopped Buffalo-Enola freight. Both trains were to take the siding for a northbound freight to pass. Tragically, the head brakeman of the SYEN and the flagman in the caboose of the BUEN were killed upon impact. The engineer of the SYEN was critically injured. Seventeen month-old CR 6407 was scrapped.
