Remarks & Notes
In 1946 four 25 year old F-19 C&O Pacifics were converted by the C&O to class L-1 Hudsons (490-493). They were modernized with new cast frames, Poppet valves, roller bearings on all axles, the latest appliances, and stainless steel trim. The engines proved the poppet valve concept on the C&O, resulting in the later L-2a Hudson's. These rebuilt engines were to be used on the ill-fated Chessie train, and the streamlining was designed to match the Chessie car styling. C&O put them to work on fast passenger trains all over their system. They lasted into the early fifties before being sent to scrap.

These are engines that are either already scrapped, are in deadlines, or they're in severe danger of being scrapped. Not everything can be preserved.
