Winter snow in Indiana A Conrail steel coil train is eastbound at 3:54 on the afternoon of January 15, 1994, just east of Rolling Prairie, Indiana. Yes, it is cold, and it’s going to get dark early, especially with the lake-effect snow blowing off the the southern tip of Lake Michigan. Much of the time the snow was more like ice crystals, looking more like fog than snow, because of the frigid temperature.
