Remarks & Notes

E1504 features prominantly in this group of Class 6E1 locomotives, the majority of which still sport their original awesome South African Railway livery (SAR Red & Whiskers), at Bayhead. Bayhead is the busiest rail yard in Durban, with most of the Natal Main Line and KZN North & South Coast freight passing through here. Sadly the Class 6E1s are almost all gone now from Durban, many of which have made their way to Koedespoort in Pretoria, where they undergo a major upgrade and refurbishment and emerge as renumbered Class 18Es, in an effort to extend their working life.
