Class 6E1 locomotives, E1531 (still in her original South African Railway livery and with a full set of number and maker plates intact) and E1702, are seen here leaving Bayhead Yard after cutting off their load, as they return to their depot nearby. During 2012, both E1531 and E1702 were put through the Class 18E upgrade program at Koedespoort, Pretoria, where they emerged as reclassified and renumbered Class 18E locomotives, 18-718 and 18-712 respectively. Bayhead Yard is the largest freight receiving and dispatching yard in Durban.
Photos taken in the Durban area, from the PRASA / Metrorail yards just North of Durban Station to Rossburgh Station including the Bayhead yards and along the Esplanade, Maydon Wharf and around Durban Harbour.
The red & whisker livery of the South African Railways / Suid Afrikaanse Spoorwee collection. Getting harder to find examples of this fantastic and much loved livery still in service!
