A pair of Soo Line GP9s sit around the turntable at Shops Yard at North Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, on April 27, 1985. SOO GP9 No. 403 was a freight-hauling locomotive built in 1954, while sister No. 2556 was originally bought to haul passenger trains when delivered in 1956. The end came for No. 2556 not long after this photo. It was wrecked in Roseport, Minnesota, in a switching accident with a Chicago & North Western train in 1985. The locomotive was demolished and officially retired in October 1986. Was this really thirty years ago?!
