On Saturday morning 13 February 2016, a work crew was grinding rails, when sparks ignited the trestle. Attempts were made to extinguish the fire, but clearly that was unsuccessful. To the best of my knowledge, no one was injured. This is also the right of way that The City of New Orleans uses, thus passengers are being bused between New Orleans and Jackson, MS. Because of the location of the trestle/fire, 11 boats and 2 helicopters were used to fight the fire. Photo taken and used with permission by Gisele Knox. Interestingly...my wife, daughter and I had reservations to ride The City of New Orleans tomorrow from Jackson to New Orleans...looks like will be driving now instead!
