Amtrak Meets MARC. A four-hour late Amtrak Capital Limited (Train 30, AMTK 69, P42DC leading) passed the Gaithersburg, Maryland station at the right time to meet MARC Train 873 (MARC 7759, MARC IIB, Sumitomo/?Nippon Sharyo, 1991-1993 trailing) departing on the afternoon of May 15, 2014. This is a rare occurrence to say the least, as the eastbound Amtrak is due into Washington DC several hours before the first MARC Train departs westbound on the Brunswick Line (except for the early Friday train, then only about a half-hour). Partially obscured by the train, on the right in the photo is the original 1884 Baltimore & Ohio Railroad Gaithersburg Station, still in use today as a coffee shop and the Gaithersburg Community Museum.
Lots of acton one of the busiest - and fastest - sections of the Northeast Corridor plus the Capitol Limited going through Harpers Ferry, Sand Patch Tunnel and more.
