In August of 1972, a BN transfer run heads for the bridge over the Columbia River into Portland, OR. The train is departing BN's Vancouver Yard with four ex-SP&S Alco RS3s for power.
New Haven RS3 534 and local freight NX-15 out of Waterbury, CT, have arrived at Naugatuck, where the crew goes to work switching the Uniroyal footwear plant, a major rail customer at the time.
Time is running out for this storied short line as the RS-3 successor to steam and Baldwins idles at the Suprior Yard office.
