In 1982 PTRC performed industry switching for Union Pacific and Burlington Northern at industries located at Guilds Lake Yard in northwest Portland. Predecessor Northern Pacific Terminal Company (NPT) was established in 1882, with ownership was split Oregon & California (20%), Northern Pacific (40%) and Oregon Railroad & Navigation Company (40%). On November 1, 1965, the company was renamed Portland Terminal Railroad Company, today jointly owned by O&C and ORN-successors UP (60%) and NP-successor BNSF (40%), utilizing locomotives from each railroad.
