Patagonia is a world of wide open spaces with the snow capped Andes as a dramatic backdrop. The 76 cm gauge passenger train (with diner) is on the last leg of its tri-weekly journey to remote Esquel from Ingeniero Jacobacci, where the little narrow gauge connects with the broad gauge from Buenas Aires. The line survives today as a tourist operation, but through service over the entire line happens only a few times a year.
The narrow gauge line to Esquel, Argentina, variously known as La Trochita, The Old Patagonian Express, or just the Esquel line, linked the remote villages of southern Patagonia with the outside world. It is amazing that the line still exists.
