Remarks & Notes |
An engineers' train catches the evening sun as it passes Bathford church before joing the Great Western main line at Bathampton junction, about 2 miles east of the Georgian city. The scenic route between Bathampton Junction and Westbury carries regular railcar traffic on the Cardiff-Bristol-Salisbury-Portsmouth and Weymouth routes in addition to some freight including fuel oil, coal and aggregates. The line also sees High Speed Trains diverted during weekend engineering works on the main lines to London and is the regular route of the attractive VSOE ('Orient Express') and other excursions to Bath and Bristol. Many good photo locations can be accessed from the canal towpath which parallels the railway between Bath and Bradford-on-Avon. |
