A Metrorail train begins crossing the Potomac River, undoubtedly carrying some of the thousands of people who spent the morning among the cherry blossoms along the Tidal Basin and the Potomac River. First given as a symbol of friendship between the US and Japan in 1912, the blossoming cherry trees are now seen as a symbol of spring in the nation's capital.
