Travel Town Museum in Los Angeles' Griffith Park has a very interesting track layout. Here is a stub switch, without the narrowing points of a typical switch. This is how great-great grandpa did it. Although in this case, this ancient type of construction is fairly recent, having been added in order to expand storage with a new spur some time around 1999.
