Remarks & Notes
A set of Budd Metropolitan MUs pulls to the platform to begin its run into Grand Central Terminal. These cars were introduced in Penn Central days, in 1971. Because the MTA wanted a family appearance for all the MU rail equipment used by the PC Metropolitan Region, LIRR and the NYC Transit Authority-new purchases at that time were all designed by the same firm: Sundberg-Ferar of Southfield,Michigan. Thus, the R40M, R44, R46, Cosmpolitan and Metropolitan all looked similar.
