Even with four units (very unusual), the Empire Builder is still running over three hours late on this bitterly cold morning. It was -15 degrees without the wind chill at the time of this photo.

This train, which runs between Chicago and Seattle and Portland, takes its name from James J. Hill, who founded the Great Northern Railroad and extended it from Minnesota to the Pacific Coast.
