Due to an avalanche risk and having to bus passengers between Whitefish, MT and Havre, MT the long way through Missoula, MT, the eastbound Empire Builder is running about 11 hours late as it comes through Harwood, about 9 miles away from the train's next stop in Fargo, ND.
This train, which runs between Chicago and Seattle and Portland, takes its name from James J. Hill, who founded the Great Northern Railroad and extended it from Minnesota to the Pacific Coast.
