SP "Torpedo Boat" GP9 #3005 is passing thru Newhall Yard in San Jose on its way to San Francisco. The first two cars still wear the gray paint and white stripe. #3005 later became #3189 but is now presrved wearing its original number, 5623 and "Black Widow" paint.

Where once there was only one commuter carrier, Southern Pacific between San Jose and San Francisco, today there are three: Caltrain (former SP), Altamont Commuter Express, and the newest, SMART (Sonoma-Marin Rapid Transit).
