Remarks & Notes

The Eastern portal of the original Big Bend Tunnel. After the 2nd bore was completed in 1932, it was renamed Great Bend Tunnel. This bore is home to the legend of John Henry, and faithfully served the C&O railway for over 100 years before retirement in the mid 1970's.
