Fortunately, the Settle & Carlisle route has seen a resurgence of steam specials in recent times. On a dismal day with a howling gale, I decided not to venture much further than the North Yorkshire market town of Settle (lazy or what?). I was rewarded with this view of 'Princess Elizabeth' only a mile or so up the valley and I was delighted with the result. As it happened, I was able to 'chase' the train up the increasingly misty route towards fog-bound Ribblehead. Of the half-dozen shots I managed this is the best by some margin. Perhaps the lesson is - quit while you're ahead!
