| Deep in the narrow valleys of the ancient and verdant Forest of Dean, hopelessly uneconomical scenes like this 'pick-up' branch freight continued into the mid-60's. The railways of the region were notably captured for posterity by local photographers such as Ben Ashworth. Thanks to many volunteers, future generations may also witness the delicious potterings of little GWR pannier tanks along weed-strewn sidings in the middle of nowhere!. |
