| Now a regular fixture, the 'Cotton Mill Express' runs downhill towards Huddersfield through Slaithwaite (locals pronounce it 'Slaa-wit'). Though much cleaner and genteel than of yore, it is one of the few remaining towns that still evoke the 'dark Satanic mills' image. This vantage point emphasises the character of the Colne Valley, a region gradually becoming a rather nice part of my home county - Yorkshire. |
