Remarks & Notes |
An old shot from 1978. Castle Class no. 7029 Clun Castle reverses past Chester Signal Box with its Pullman support coach. The manoevre was to turn the engine on a triangle to enable it to back onto the carriages of the train it had brought in so as to make the return journey. In the background is 40 106 on the first day that it had been repainted into BR green livery. This had been the last Class 40 to still carry (very weather-beaten) green and it was expected that it would be painted into BR blue like the rest of the class. It was a shock to see that Chester depot had painted it green again. This was the first day it had been outside the depot. Thankfully, the diesel was preserved. The Castle is now a static exhibit. |
