A Union Pacific conductor standing on SP caboose #4612 protects the shove of the Saugus Local from Gemco Yard in Van Nuys, to Burbank Junction, where the train will face the right way for its journey up to the Santa Clarita area. In the conductor's left hand is an air horn, which is used at crossings and passenger stations along the way.
