Remarks & Notes |
This ballast train is entering an apparently deserted Manchester Victoria from the east, having descended the notorious Miles Platting bank. The severity of the descent can clearly be seen in this image. Although this modern locomotive is barely a dozen years old, she will be scrapped within three months. Her number and shed codes have been roughly painted on in place of the cast metal originals. These will have been removed (or stolen for souvenirs) and by August steam will be extinct on British Railways. |
