Of all the surreal and truly wonderful sights I ever encountered, this must surely rank near the top. I had gone to the NYMR's annual gala unprepared, with no idea what was running. I chose the 'quiet' end of the line, intending to include the two delightful cottages. The approaching train sounded odd and quite unlike anything I'd ever heard before. I had no idea that Britain's oldest working locomotive was guesting with its equally wonderful vintage stock. This is possibly as near an impression of 1863 as it is possible to achieve in the 21st century and a very special photograph to me.
