Remarks & Notes |
A fine old tank engine at the Hungarian Railway Museum. Note the Brotan Boiler. This was a water tube type and was normally found on the Hungarian State Railways, who made over a thousand of thetype. It was used because Hungary was short of copper at the time and thus the Brotan was a steel tube boiler. The design was originated by Johann Brotan, chief of the Gmünd Workshop of the Austrian State Railway Company; He invented and patented this form of boiler in 1902. It was widely used in Hungary, but only in small numbers in other countries. |
