An old shot from 1980 of an unusual view of Manchester Victoria Station. The scene has completely changed now. The platforms on the left have all gone. A new events arena has been built here and goes over almost all the tracks. The canopy on the left has gone, as has the signal box. There has been a complete remodelling of the tracks. A great old station completely ruined, in my opinion. This was the station where I first started watching steam trains properly back in the late 1950s. A track maintenance machine is parked in the foreground, while in the distance, you can just see a Class 25 waiting for its next duty of banking heavy freight trains up the 1 in 37 gradient to the east.
