Remarks & Notes

The Engineer working from the cab of 478 as it climbs the hill about ten miles north of Durango. This track location is the last place near the road as the train travels North along the Animas River and the road goes higher over Coal Bank Pass. The tender carries 5 tons of coal. It is stoked by hand. The fireman is the real thing on these old engines.
