A freight climbs the far mountain side having left Tolar Grande upon the arrival of our very late passenger train. This scene is at about 14,000 feet above sea level on the northern trans-Andino between Salta, Argentina and Antofagasta, Chile. It is cold, remote and you really hope you don't get left behind! Weeks after this picture was taken the line was dieselized, and today it is out of service.
