Remarks & Notes |
The ARR's annual Colony Christmas train is just minutes away from arriving at its destination, the historic downtown Palmer Depot. The train made the mile sprint from Anchorage to Matanuska in under an hour then took just over an hour to traverse the 6 mile Palmer Branch. The rails the train is pictured on are normally out of service and this is the only move to traverse it for the entire year. The district roadmaster boarded the head end 1 mile to the south to provide an escort for the final crawl into town. The day is crystal clear and the Talkeetna Moutains shine brightly in the background at the head of the valley. |
