Remarks & Notes
Running about 10 hours late, The eastbound Empire Builder makes a rare afternoon appearance in Little Falls. I'd imagine that if on-board commentary were being given on the train, it would go something like this "...and on our left, we're about to pass by the Mississippi River dam at the falls that gives this town its name. The open water downstream of the dam is steaming in the 0°F (-18°C) air. On our right, we're about to pass by an area lunat, er, railfan, standing on a pile of snow and shivering amid a wind chill of -15°F (-26°C)."

This train, which runs between Chicago and Seattle and Portland, takes its name from James J. Hill, who founded the Great Northern Railroad and extended it from Minnesota to the Pacific Coast.
