The Christine Anderson momentarily halts boarding as #509 streaks through the S curves, along the shores of Washington State's first incorporated city, Steilacoom. The original NP Point Defiance line was built with the provision, backed up by a city ordinance (#85) that NP "erect and maintain a good and substantial station, to cost not less than $3,000 and be constructed of either concrete, brick or cement plaster." NP was also required to stop daily, "not less than two northbound and two southbound passenger trains .." The little station on the other side of the hill hasn't seen a regular passenger train stop since the 1930s.
