Stacked tie plates and bare ties are the remnants of Duke University's West Campus spur, which was used to bring in materials for construction of the university in the late 1920's and early 30's, and until this year was used to deliver coal to the steam plant. The plant's smoke stacks are visible in the background, as are the spires of Duke Chapel. |
