Remarks & Notes
The undisputed star attraction at the Wilmington & Western Railroad is this beautiful 4-4-0 American, built by Alco in Schenectady, NY for the Mississippi Central Railroad in 1909. She's the only remaining example of this classic type that still runs on a regular basis and the folks at the Wilmington & Western keep her in tip-top shape. In this shot, we see #98 easing her excursion train into the company's Marshallton Yard at the end of a service day. This locomotive will be reaching her 100th year of service in May of 2009 and the railroad has plans for a very appropriate birthday bash!
