Surprisingly, a search for DD-1 reveals no photos of these unique 4-4-0+0-4-4 electrics in preservation. The 3937/3936 pair were built by the Juniata shops in 1911 and donated to the RR Museum of PA in 1979. Not so graceful as the mighty GG-1, but somewhat more externally interesting with its enormous counterweights and siderods. The drivers are 72" and the double engine could produce 80,000lbs of tractive effort and reach 85 MPH. 33 pairs were built at a cost of just over $53,000 each. Note the 3rd rail pick-ups mounted outside the leading/trailing trucks. It's a wonder that this unique beast isn't housed inside.
