Remarks & Notes |
The Network Rail single track line from the historic & picturesque fishing port of Whitby to Middlesborough connects with the North York Moors Railway at Grosmont Junction. The NYMR fought a very long battle with Network Rail to obtain regular running rights over the seven mile section into Whitby. Now it's a reality, with two or three trains making the trip daily in season. The fact that the River Esk meanders so much, means no less than eight bridges will be crossed in this short journey. The first is seen here at Ruswarp (pron. RUS-UP) with the attractive church of Saint Bartholomew's dominating the skyline. |
